About Apopka, FL
Known as the Indoor Foliage Capital of the World and also home to the 2001 Little League World Series U.S. Champions, Apopka is located about 12 miles northwest of Orlando. Just minutes from major Orlando business hubs and shopping districts, it has become one of the most desirable and fastest growing communities in Central Florida with a population of just over 45,000 in the greater Apopka area. Homes are available in upscale golf communities as well as more moderately priced homes in planned communities.
Incorporated in 1882, the City limits were originally measured one mile in all directions from the Masonic Lodge. The "Lodge" is still in its original location on Main Street (US 441) and is the oldest lodge room in continuous use in the State of Florida.
In 1912 ferns became the industry for Apopka and soon Apopka developed the name of "Fern City". More tropical plants were introduced to the growers in the area. This influx of foliage took over the fern industry and Apopka became known as "The Indoor Foliage Capital of the World". Many commercial greenhouses growing indoor plants are still active in the area and Apopka continues to figure measurably in the Orlando area’s citrus production |
